Painting on paper has a satisfying feeling. There is an immediacy in the process that invites imagination and play. Placing the tape on the border and setting up a boundary for the images to appear feels like casting a circle and calling in the corners to support. It is preparing a space for the energy to become seen. As soon as I choose a color, the story and the characters begin to make themselves known. These pieces are magical in their process of creation, a sense that comes through in the final image.
What happens when we end up meeting our self as Fate on the path to the destiny designed? For years I have had a story in my inner reality of a young boy’s confrontation and acceptance of Fate’s plan for him. I have tried to write the story but struggled with the linear process needed to share this tale with others. This image captures the non-linear nature of this inner fairy tale. As the young boy is Fate, he made the path and is on the path all at once. He is also outside of the meeting, witnessing this moment.
I sat down to paint and as these figures and images came through, I knew instantly these were the characters playing out their story on paper with paint. This painting is the foundation of the sgraffito piece “Meeting Fate On The Path.” Here we become aware of all the plans we have laid, and are caught off guard by our own potential.
