I have a thing with dragons. Not in the fantasy way, but in a very personal way. I know that when dragons show up there is a negotiation already underway. Even if we are unaware it is in process. Dragons are one of those creatures that show up a lot in my work and I have my own mythology around. When I had cancer, I struggled with the "fighting" language around it. I never felt like it was a battle. I told people it was like having tea with a dragon. I mean if you find a dragon in your house, fighting might just destroy your home during the battle. So instead, I thought about gathering courage and inviting it to sit down for a cup of tea. There we would have a conversation to see if we could come to an agreement.

This piece recalls that idea of this negotiation. It imagines how we might better become aware of the dragons, when they inevitably arrive. They come with their own wisdom and purposes we cannot know. Denyinging that means we may miss something vital to our own process if we are not careful. In this piece there is a call to historical moments, as well as a call to individuals having their own personal negotiations and realizations. And as they arrive, there is a stillness...a moment to pause. Time stops as we witness and steady ourselves for the tense moments ahead.
